Learning changes when the challenge is live
Public service development works differently when participants are accountable for doing something with the learning while the programme is still running.
A case study is not the same as your case
Examples help people see possibilities. They do not carry the local politics, history, relationships and constraints of the work participants will return to on Monday.
That is why our programmes ask people to bring live challenges. The learning becomes a way to inspect and change the work, not a temporary escape from it.
The challenge needs a sponsor and room to move
A live challenge is not simply a project title. It needs:
- A real outcome that matters beyond the participant.
- Access to people who experience or shape the issue.
- Enough sponsorship to test something.
- A boundary small enough for action within the programme.
- Permission to discover that the original definition was wrong.
Action learning and peer challenge then become more than discussion methods. They provide repeated contact between an idea, the local system and the participant’s own conduct.
The output is evidence from action
A strong programme leaves behind a practical plan, changed relationships, a tested intervention or a clearer decision. Participants also learn how the system responds when they act. That is knowledge no slide deck can supply in advance.
Start with the work
Tell us what is happening, who needs to act, and what cannot wait.
We will help you decide whether a short diagnostic, an in-house cohort, a place-based academy, or an existing programme is the sensible next move.
